While country music stars The Chicks may not have been singing about North Central Omaha in their anthem “Wide Open Spaces," this expansive community of open land, a massive lake, and desirable homesites certainly offers room to make one’s dreams come true. Not only can you find multi-acre properties fronting Lake Cunningham with companion outbuildings, but you’ll also find custom-built estates, new construction, and raised ranch-style homes. While it may seem remote as there’s plenty of room to spread out in North Central Omaha, you’re still less than a 20-minute drive to downtown. All the luxuries and conveniences you need are nearby as well. As Andrea Lane, Realtor with BHHS Ambassador Real Estate says, “This is a really accessible location, even though there’s plenty of room to breathe. It’s super close to schools, shopping, and restaurants and you can easily jump on I-680 to get where you need to go.”

One of the largest northwest communities of Omaha, North Central Omaha is anchored by Central Omaha and North Omaha. It envelops the southern half of Glenn Cunningham Lake and extends southward toward Highway 64, with Interstate 680 extending along its west edge. Undeveloped land and spacious residential lots, as well as homes near the lake and Omaha Country Club are highly sought-after. You’ll find three-acre waterfront properties for around $795,000, custom-built estates on 10 acres for about $2 million, new four-bedroom transitional homes for around $350,000, and raised ranch-style homes from the 1990s and early 2000s from $270,000 to $300,000.

Prairie Wind Elementary opened its doors in 1994 and offers pre-K through fifth grade. Niche ranks it the 7th most diverse public elementary school in Nebraska, and gives it a C-plus rating. Alfonza W. Davis Middle offers sixth through eighth grade and is rated a C-plus by Niche. Honors and specialty classes in Anthropology, Pottery and Service Learning are popular offerings. Niche gives Omaha Northwest Magnet High an overall C-grade. They provide a Freshman Academy to help students plan for success throughout their high school career, along with more than 40 honors programs. Somerset Park features a playground, a baseball field, walking trails, a covered picnic area and direct access to Little Papillion Creek. If you crave outdoor sports, you’ll enjoy Glenn Cunningham Lake, a 390-acre reservoir that’s linked to Little Papillion Creek. The 1,000-plus acre park includes camping, kayaking, boating, fishing and horseback riding. HobbyTown USA, a national retail collectibles and toy store chain, is nearby with their most iconic offering -- HobbyTown HobbyPlex -- an indoor-only off-road RC (radio controlled/race car) complex.

Legends Patio Bar & Grill receives great reviews for its pizza, wraps and burgers. Its 30 flat-screen TV’s are ready when you want to catch your favorite team. Mangia Italiana receives high praise from Italian food lovers. They feature a different homemade soup every day of the week and their ever-changing desserts are hard to resist. Try their tiramisu or the limoncello cake. For trendy women’s fashions, accessories and gifts, visit Four Sisters Boutique. Nebraska fans covet their seasonal line of sweatshirts and t-shirts that boast loyalty to the 37th state. Nearby Sorensen Park Plaza offers several dining options as well as retailers including Target, Ross Dress for Less and Marshalls. Grocery stores including Aldi are a short drive east on Sorensen Parkway. When you’re ready to update the gardens of your new home or indulge in more extensive landscaping renovations, take some time to explore Yard Market. From seedlings and potted plants to bulk materials and design services, they will help you transform your dream home to your personal showplace.

If you need wide open spaces, a bit of land, and a home that meets your unique preferences, don’t hesitate to consider the diverse offerings available in North Central Omaha.

We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.
