Midland Hills
Two golf courses for private and public golfing
Midland Hills Country Club's 18-hole course is for members only, and its design is reminiscent of some of the sport's iconic locations. “Architects who grew up in Scotland came to America and took all of what they knew from the best holes in Europe and duplicated them here,'' Manthey says. "We have holes that mimic ones in France, northern Scotland and a couple from England.” The club opens to the public for several fundraisers throughout the year. “They are always sold out,” says Manthey. “It’s super fun to have people experience the golf course who don’t normally play here.” Across Larpenteur Avenue, the University of Minnesota, Lee Bolstad Course has evolved over the years from its original nine-hole layout for faculty and staff into the 18-hole home of the Gophers' golf team. Open to the public for a daily fee, the course is named for a longtime university golf coach. Despite 36 holes in a small area, the neighborhood isn't all about golf. Lauderdale Community Park's basketball, tennis and roller hockey facilities are right next to the university's golf course. There’s also a fenced-in dog park, playground and an archery range. Roseville’s newest green space, Sunset Park, is being built near homes on the west side of the neighborhood. The nearly 1-acre park is expected to be completed by 2025 and will have playground equipment, nature trails, basketball courts and an area for picnics.Suburban homes with lots of trees
Midland Hills is predominantly made up of single-family homes built between the 1950s and early 2000s. Ranch-style, split-level and New Traditional houses are the most common. They’re built on quarter- to-half-acre lots with mature trees. While most houses are on calm suburban streets, some have front yards that face the Interstate 35W wall. However, they typically have long driveways and are tucked away behind trees that obstruct the view. "It's close to the freeway, but it's still a nice, quiet neighborhood off the beaten path," says Lisa Proechel, a local real estate agent with Keller Williams Integrity Realty. "You don't get a whole lot of traffic going through the neighborhood because it's all residential." Some backyards are adjacent to the golf course, but the tall trees block not only the views of the fairways but also the balls that may come flying from bad swings. Homes ranging from 1,200 to 2,500 square feet sell for around $350,000 to $500,000. Larger 3,000- to 5,000-square-foot homes go for $550,000 to $1.5 million. While attached homes aren’t common, there are a few dozen duplexes on Midland View Court North. They feature three-car garages, four bedrooms and around 3,500 to 3,800 square feet of living space, selling between $650,000 and $700,000.Roseville shopping centers a few miles away
Roseville shopping centers are less than 3 miles away via Interstate 35W and MN Route 36. They feature several big-box retailers, such as Target, Marshalls and Burlington. There’s also the Rosedale Center, an indoor mall with more than 150 businesses. It’s also home to SeaQuest Roseville, which features interactive displays of marine and aquatic animals, including such experiences as petting stingrays and holding the hand of an otter. The mall and shopping centers also have dozens of restaurants, most of which are national chains. There are a few local spots, such as La Casita, an established Mexican restaurant, and Baldamar, an upscale steakhouse. Members of Midland Hills Country Club can also enjoy a meal in the clubhouse restaurant.College preparation is priority through Roseville Area Schools
Students attend Brimhall Elementary School, which earns a B grade from Niche. Roseville Area Middle School is also graded a B. Meanwhile, Roseville Area High School earns an A and is ranked the 13th-best college prep high school in the state. High schoolers may take free college courses at the high school through the Concurrent Enrollment program or at a participating college campus through the Post-secondary Enrollment Option. Juniors and seniors also have the option of attending the Northeast Metro 916 Career & Tech Center to earn industry certifications and college credit through a choice of 20 programs, such as animation and game design, construction and criminal justice.University of Minnesota's College of Biological Sciences and its College of Agricultural, Food and Natural Resource Sciences are based on the St. Paul Campus, south of Larpenteur Avenue, about 2 miles from the farthest point in the neighborhood. There are a pair of museums and other open-to-the-public spots on campus, in addition to the golf course.Getting around the Minneapolis metro
From Interstate 35W, it’s less than 8 miles to Central Minneapolis, the city’s downtown district. The neighborhood is also adjacent to MN Highways 36 and 280 for easy access to other parts of the Minneapolis metro. Travelers are also about 10 miles north of Minneapolis–Saint Paul International Airport.
