A mix of apartments and single-family homes in Arden-Arcade
About 8 miles northeast of downtown Sacramento in the unincorporated community of Arden-Arcade, suburban Marconi South has single-family homes to the east, midcentury condos to the north, apartments to the west. Commercial areas around the neighborhood's edges include grocery stores, halal markets and national chain retailers. There are many nearby afghani restaurants, and the closest Islamic house of worship, Masjid Ar-Rahman, is about 2 miles south. “There does seem to be a lot of revitalization in the last few years,” says Amber Elliot, owner of Elliot’s Natural Foods. “We’re seeing a lot of new businesses pop up, plus some housing developments in the surrounding areas, instead of just shopping. It’s bringing in more residents.” Residential streets generally lack sidewalks, but major roads like Fulton Avenue have bike lanes. The private Del Paso Country Club is just north, and several public parks are within a mile or two.

Ranch-style homes on large lots
Single-family homes are found on Marconi South’s east side, within pocket subdivisions; most homes are either midcentury ranch-style or new traditional Craftsman-style from the 2010s. Lots tend to be large, ranging from a quarter acre to one-third of an acre, and many homes have private swimming pools. Front yards are typically flat and grassy, dotted with a few maple or cypress trees. The neighborhood's popular with investors looking to either rent out or flip their homes, so prices largely depend on how well a property has been maintained. Well-maintained or recently renovated homes range from $400,000 to $850,000, while fixer-uppers generally range from $300,000 to $400,000. On the neighborhood's north end, a few gated condo complexes from the 1950s have two-bedroom units that range from $200,000 to $300,000; pricing depends on size, with units ranging from 700 to 950 square feet.
