Historic Saint John Cantius has strong community spirit
Just west of downtown St. Cloud, the residential Saint John Cantius neighborhood is a small community of century-old homes centered around the namesake church. The area has changed over the years — families have moved in, children grew up and moved out and local businesses have opened and closed. Throughout that change, the community spirit has stood firm. “One of the things I noticed, having come from a small town, was that we all keep an eye on each other. We can talk to the neighbors down the street, and everybody knew everybody growing up,” says Lucy Schwieger, a 40-year resident and the office manager at St. John Cantius Church. Its location near downtown and along major thoroughfares offers easy access to St. Cloud’s shopping and dining scenes while providing homeowners with a tight-knit community to return to daily.
