Sea Cliff
Homes designed by the masters
Sea Cliff is one of San Francisco’s eight master-planned residence parks. The neighborhood was officially established in 1913 with the construction of its first single-family home. Since then, these homes multiplied. Some were designed by renowned architects like Julia Morgan and Albert Farr and one on Sea Cliff Avenue was even allegedly used to hold stolen multimillion-dollar works of art, as reported by local online publication SF Gate. Some of the stately homes in Sea Cliff are built right into the cliffs. There is an elegant variety of styles, including Mediterranean and Tudor designs, but there are also a few condos around the neighborhood. Many are free-standing and detached, which is a rarity in San Francisco. Costs range between $800,000 for one-bedroom condos to $25 million for the much larger estates with five or six bedrooms. Homes sell after about 27 days on the market.Highly-rated schools for Sea Cliff students
Students in can attend schools like Alamo Elementary School and Presidio Middle School, which both earned A-minus grades from Niche. George Washington High School, which received an A, teaches unique Advanced Placement courses like Science Fiction & Fantasy and European Literature. Nearby private school Katherine Delmar Burke School is another main draw for education in the area. "You have a lot of people moving to Sea Cliff just for Burke's alone," says Artemis Real Estate Realtor Payton Stiewe, who has sold a home in Sea Cliff.Beaches, golf and works of art
Residents are only minutes away from the water. China Beach, which was named for the Chinese fishermen who camped there in the mid-1800s, is a popular spot for local beachgoers. Those who’d prefer non-beach activities can explore the Lands End Trail or play a round at Lincoln Park's golf course. They can also check out the beautiful Lincoln Park Steps. Once a dull and damaged piece of infrastructure, the neighborhood decided to turn it into a work of art. All 52 steps are adorned with colored mosaic tiles, serving as a reminder that beauty can be found anywhere. The park is also by the Legion of Art, a museum that holds over 4,000 pieces of ancient and European art. This elegant building overlooks the Golden Gate Bridge.Traveling by car, bus or plane
Residents can travel by car or bus, using major roads El Camino Del Mar and California Street. Commuters should know that downtown San Francisco is about five miles away while Oakland is 17 miles out. Glen Cove Hospital is about 2.5 miles northwest of the neighborhood. San Francisco Bay Oakland International Airport is a 24-mile drive.Shopping and dining around Sea Cliff
While the neighborhood primarily consists of homes and beaches, it is also conveniently located nearby several restaurants for different palates. The Art Bistro serves up sandwiches, espressos and tea in a small, intimate dining space. From beignet breakfasts to salad suppers, Hard Knox Café delivers a taste of Southern homestyle food to the Golden State. Fat Labrador Distilleries brews spirits like whiskey and rye. Shoppers can head to Andronico’s Community Markets or Grocery Outlet to restock kitchen essentials.
