Rented condos and apartments in high-rises and 1920s bungalows
SUN is mainly an area of apartments and condos. Additionally, renters are more common than homeowners. Most condos are located west of 4th Street, varying between modern high-rises and neoclassical and contemporary condominiums. These condos usually have gated security, a private pool or a fitness center. Prices can range from $480,000 for a one-bedroom studio to over $1 million for a three-bedroom condo. South of the university is an array of duplexes and multi-family properties inside 1920s craftsman bungalows. Most homes have driveways that fit two cars; any other vehicle would involve parking on the street. These prices vary from $700,000 for a two-bedroom space to $1.6 million for an investment property. There is a mix of demographics between regular residents and SJSU students. The SUN Neighborhood Association frequently comes together for events like monthly trash pickups and ice cream socials. The neighborhood strives to keep its streets clean and eye-catching, that's why buyers will notice colorful artwork scattered around.A mile walk from San Jose's popular parks
Some of the city’s best recreation opportunities are close to SUN. O’Donnell Park is a neighborhood park about a half-mile walk from most residents. Kids can enjoy the playground, while adults enjoy the picnic benches. William Street Park is less than a mile away. Residents can picnic or run around in the 15 acres of green space. Right next door is Selma Olinder Park. Games occur on the softball fields and tennis courts, while dogs run free in their own area. The Coyote Creek Trail is one of the longest trails around the city, stretching 18.7 miles from the Bay to the southern border. Plaza de Cesar Chavez is a mile away. The staple park of Downtown San Jose is iconic for its flowing water jets, sandy beach areas and trees that shade the seating area and picnic benches. Besides outdoor recreation, the park frequently holds concerts and the Christmas in the Park event. This event celebrates the holiday season with tree lighting, Santa visits and a drive-thru light show.Home to San Jose State University
San Jose State University is north of the residential area. The university is home to up to 27,000 undergraduate students and a main producer for the Silicon Valley workforce. Grade school students can start their education at Lowell Elementary, a C-rated school by Niche. Sixth through eighth-grade students can attend Hoover Middle School, a B-minus school. High school students can attend Lincoln High, a B-plus school. Here, students can participate in over 35 clubs and activities.Weekends are for laughs, museums and shows
Thanks to the plentiful activities inside the San Jose Fine Arts district or SoFa, weekends can always be a busy time. Rotating exhibits of various photographers occur at the San Jose Museum of Art, while Tech Interactive encourages folks to try out STEM exhibits and become their own tech gurus. Laughs are on the agenda at San Jose Improv, where local and national comedians come to perform. The California Theatre and the SJSU's Hammer Theatre Center offer monthly art and dance performances.BART train Station coming to Downtown San Jose

Interstate 280 is south of the neighborhood, offering access to the rest of Silicon Valley and the Bay Area. Off Second Street is the Santa Clara Light Rail station, which provides routes to the San Jose International Airport. The Airport is 6 miles away by car and offers nonstop flights to over 40 international and domestic destinations. The San Jose Amtrak station is 3 miles away, offering services to Auburn and Sacramento. The Bay Area Rapid Transit, or BART, is in the process of building a new train station for Downtown San Jose. This new train is part of a decades-long Silicon Valley Extension Program, which expands services to Santa Clara County. Once completed, commuters can travel east toward Oakland and west to Santa Clara. The station is expected to be completed between 2033 and 2036.Various cultural restaurants within 2-mile walking distance
Walkability is one of the best assets of SUN residents. The neighborhood earns a high walk and bike score of 91 and 95, respectively. “You can walk to restaurants, theatres, sports events, museums and the light rail line,” Hanson says. “You’ve got the best of both worlds—a peaceful retreat in the heart of a bustling city.” Within the neighborhood’s 3-mile radius are local restaurants that serve several cuisines at any time of day. A.M. Craft can start the mornings with their crafted coffee and light pastries. Pizzas, wings and fries are the go-to pairings at Sammy G’s Pizza. After-work socials can involve a trip to California Wet Burrito for dinner on the patio or video games and beer at the Guildhouse. Groceries can be brought from the Grocery Outlet. 2 miles away are shopping options like Walmart Supercenter and the Grand Century Shopping Mall, which holds various Vietnamese restaurants and stores.
