Somis
Suburban Neighborhood in California
Ventura County 93066
Orchards, groves and a whole lot of land
The homes of Somis are typically priced in the millions, lavishly designed with custom architecture, from Moroccan-influenced and Georgian-style estates to villas with Mediterranean flair. As potential homebuyers explore the area, it’s common to see farms, flower nurseries, equestrian facilities and even alpaca ranches. "Somis is definitely for estate homes,” Gutierrez says. “If you own one, it's going to have orchards, groves and a lot of land." With such a large real estate span, price points increase as home space and acreage increase. Houses of over 10,000 square feet have sold for as much as $6 million, while smaller ranch-style homes with no less than 3,000 square feet go for between $1 million and $3 million.Fresh produce and flowers supplied by local vendors
Along Los Angeles Avenue, residents can find a handful of agricultural stands and shops run by local vendors. Underwood Family Farms invites visitors to pick their own crops, from strawberries in the spring to blackberries in the summer. The farm’s animal center shelters sheep, alpacas and pygmy goats who dwell beneath the citrus trees out back. Somis Nut House is easy to miss but offers various nuts, seeds and candies. The Peterson Ranch Fruit Stand has a near-constant supply of fresh produce, flowers, homemade sauces and jams. Gutierrez says, "There's a berry farm and a little store — I heard the food there is amazing." That’s Somis Café and Market. Patrons from near and far rave about its authentic Mexican food.Vibrant celebrations of food, wine and brews
The California Strawberry Festival occurs yearly in Ventura, about 20 miles west of Somis. Held at the Ventura County Fairgrounds, guests can check out more than 40 food vendors serving strawberry treats alongside arts and crafts booths and live music performances. Less than 5 miles from Camarillo, residents can easily partake in the city’s festivities, like Casa Pacifica Angels Wine, Food & Brew Fest held each year at California State University Channel Islands. Similarly, A Taste of Camarillo invites folks to sample wines, browse boutiques and dance to local music. Ventura and Camarillo consistently host vibrant public events, beckoning Somis residents to stay updated with the latest festivities.Country clubs in Ventura County
Many residents consider joining nearby country clubs to access luxury amenities and community outside the otherwise agricultural area. Established in 1921, The Saticoy Club provides an elite golfing experience including professional teaching opportunities and tournaments. Members enjoy a swimming pool, fitness center and exclusive dining, from Valentine’s Day dinners to Mother’s Day brunch. Las Posas Country Club has its own wine club as well as tennis, fitness, and swimming facilities. Those simply looking for golf excursions can check out Sterling Hills Golf Club, where avocado and citrus groves surround an 18-hole course.High-quality public schools in three districts
Both Somis School and Mesa Union School are public institutions enrolling kindergarten through eighth grade. The former earns a B on Niche, a small and family-oriented school with only about 250 students. The latter earns a B-plus and provides athletic programs for students in middle grades. Rancho Campana High School is the closest secondary institution, located in Camarillo. Earning an A on Niche, students are provided district-issued laptops for schoolwork, as well as opportunities for dual enrollment. From Ventura to Simi Valley and all the way to Los Angeles

Los Angeles is about 54 miles south via Route 101, though Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) is a 60-mile commute. Locals pass through Thousand Oaks on the way, situated only about 16 miles from Somis. Ventura County’s VCTC Intercity Bus provides stops on Somis Road, its route extending from Ventura to Simi Valley.Amenities in Camarillo
