There are also New Traditionals, Cape Cods and custom builds. Properties on or close to the bay typically feature decks and balconies with water views, and lakefront homes often have small docks. Lots closest to the shore are sandy with beach grasses and a few shade trees. “This is the place for coastal living; the waves are calm and kid-friendly, people ride around in their golf carts, and First Landing State Park is close by for nature outings,” says Craig Boyer, a Realtor with Creed Realty.

Homebuyers here can pay well over the citywide median, which hovers around $420,000. But prices range widely. Here’s how they break down by home type:

Beaches, parks and trails offer plenty of outdoor fun
It’s easy to spend a relaxing day at the beach here. You can walk if you live close to the shore, or you can drive and park your car at Chesapeake Beach Park. “Growing up, I came to this beach often, and now I take my family and kids here. It’s more of a locals’ beach,” Boyer says. Just south of the bay on the Lynnhaven River, the Pleasure House Point Natural Area encompasses over 100 acres of tidal marsh, sand and maritime forest. It’s a favorite spot for kayaking and birdwatching. First Landing State Park is a short drive away for more outdoor adventure. “You’ll see people riding bikes or jogging along the beautiful trails. Locals love to come here for camping, hiking, fishing and boating,” Boyer says. The closest playground is at Bayville Farms Park in Bayville, and if you’re a golfer, the private Bayville Golf Club has an 18-hole layout, though membership is limited.
Residents often park at Chesapeake Beach Park and walk to the beach.

Local restaurants are sprinkled around the neighborhood. Dinner comes with a view at Buoy 44 Seafood Grill, the sole beachside eatery within the community.
