From ranch-style homes to new construction, homes vary widely

While most of Dam Neck’s housing stock is from the 1980s, you can find properties from the 1950s through today filling subdivisions with wide, sidewalk-lined streets and mature trees. Older ranch-style homes and Colonial Revivals mix with New Traditionals and brand-new Craftsman-inspired transitionals. Many properties have spacious primary suites, attached garages and renovated kitchens, and lots are well-maintained with enough room for in-ground pools. Townhouses and condos are sprinkled around the neighborhood and typically have community amenities such as pools and walking trails. “It’s a centrally located area and very inviting,” says Melody Workman, Realtor with Howard Hanna Real Estate Services. “You’re close to the beach, you can easily commute to work at the Municipal Center or Naval Air Station, and you have access to highly rated schools.”

What buyers should know about aircraft noise and flood risk

Dam Neck residents may hear intermittent military aircraft and training noise due to the neighborhood’s proximity to NAS Oceana and Dam Neck Annex. Potential buyers should also consider flood risk. A regulatory floodway flows through the neighborhood, so many homes rest within or near flood hazard areas. Flood insurance is recommended and is, in some cases, required.
