Situated along the bend of the Mississippi River, North Loop offers a vibrant family-friendly community with a history rooted in Industry. Often referred to as part of the Warehouse District, until 1930, the area was primarily a manufacturing and distribution center famous for supplying Model T’s. In the 1980s, abandoned warehouses began redevelopment as the city’s art and theater scene started moving into affordable commercial spaces. “In 1995, there were about 650 residents here, today there are more than 10,000,” says Diane Merrifield, President of the North Loop Neighborhood Association. Known for attracting young families and professionals, North Loop combines a walkable urban lifestyle, with a local small-town feel maintained through the Minneapolis Farmers Market and Minnesota Twins games at nearby Target Field. North Loop is highly sought after for its nightlife and urban accessibility, giving Minneapolis its own version of Soho in southeast Minnesota.

Multi-family condos and riverfront townhouses
The real estate market in North Loop is highly competitive, with homes averaging almost $100,000 more than similar properties in other areas within the Minneapolis Metro Area. “The market is hot and now is the time to buy in North Loop — the area is still growing and I expect prices will continue to rise within the next 2-3 years,” says long-time local Ana Vogler, Realtor with Coldwell Banker Realty. While there isn’t a diversity of housing, with no single-family options buyers will have to look to the healthy inventory of condos and townhouses. With a median sales price of $400,000, homes here range from condos beginning around $200,000s to upwards of $1 Million and townhouses from the high $500,000s to upwards of $1.5 Million along the Mississippi River. Homes along the Mississippi River are subject to increased price points here. While homeownership dominates within the area, the increased popularity has brought apartments and renters over the last decade. “Every place that used to be a flat parking lot has been filled in with apartment buildings, and there are more in development,” says Realtor Richard Newman with DRG Minneapolis Urban Homes.

Cheer on the Minnesota Twins at Target Field
When seeking time outdoors, some North Loop residents are within walking distance of North Loop Playground, which offers scenic views of the Mississippi River and 5.8 miles of paved paths on the Mississippi Walking Trail. “Many buyers are attracted to the downtown area but forget that the Mississippi River is only 2 blocks away, offering miles of walking along the river,” says Vogler, who lived in the area for three years. Sports fans are in luck with Target Field within the community, featuring more than 39,000 seats for locals to cheer on the Minnesota Twins in the stands. And with Target Center nearby live concerts and basketball games are never far away. From singing along with a favorite artist to cheering on the Minnesota Timberwolves (NBA) or the Minnesota Lynx (WNBA), Target Center is equipped with 20,000 seats to accommodate music and sports lovers.

Education at Minneapolis Public Schools

The largest Farmer's Market in Minnesota
Established in 1876, the Minneapolis Farmers Market is one of the longest-running outdoor markets in the Midwest. Located at 312 East Lyndale Avenue North, the market offers a wide range of vendors with locally grown produce, dairy, plants and homemade items. “It’s a year-round operation, and in the winter, they sell Christmas trees,” Merrifield says. Locals can visit the market in April and March on specified Saturdays, and it operates during the winter months on select dates throughout the season.

Commute on the Metro at Target Field Station
Residents in North Loop rely on North 7th Street for easy access to U.S. Interstate-394 and I-94 when traveling to neighboring areas like Harrison and Downtown West.
