Ready for a wave of change, a married couple has chosen to say goodbye to their waterfront residence, once featured on HGTV's "Beach Hunters."

Darrin Stumpf, a real estate agent with Windermere Real Estate Western WA, and his wife, Shelly Stumpf, listed their three-story beachfront residence at 10212 SW 127th St. on Washington's Vashon Island, an hour-long ferry ride from downtown Seattle, for $3.22 million. The 6,552-square-foot residence has six bedrooms and six bathrooms, with most rooms in the house looking as far out as Mount Rainier, a game room, two outdoor kids' areas and a dock on 150 feet of private waterfront.

The Stumpfs moved to Vashon Island in 2018 for the public schools, say the parents of four daughters ranging in age from 6 to 23. The 13-mile-long island, with an estimated population of about 11,000, has most of the things the family needs to live a full life, from a library to shops to grocery stores to restaurants, they said.

"The second you offload from the ferry, the tranquility settles in," Darrin Stumpf told Homes.com. "It’s nothing like I’ve experienced. ... You just breathe and know where you’re at."

Over the years, the family invested about $1 million in renovations, they said. The landscaping alone — the house has a half-mile-long drive to the door — required $200,000. Inside, one of the biggest changes entailed demolishing a bathroom next to the kitchen to expand the space.

With three daughters out of the nest and in college, the Stumpfs said they want to downsize. They're on the hunt for another residence on the island for themselves, their youngest and their two adopted dogs, Dottie and Winona, they said.

"It’s a big house. We never planned to have a house this big," Darrin Stumpf said. "The timing was right, and it was hard not to fall in love when I saw this view."

The size, Darrin said, acts as a double-edged sword with it being an ideal space for a large family but difficult to manage for a small brood.

The family will miss having their own private beach.

"I have half a mile of beachfront no one walks on," Darrin said, highlighting daily sightings of orca and seals. "You feel like you're living on vacation."

While ready to sell, the Stumpfs can always go back home again. The house and their family landed on HGTV's "Beach Hunters" in 2019.

"It was fun. It was really cool and great exposure for the house," Darrin Stumpf said. "It’s nice to say it was a featured home on HGTV."
