Douglas Elliman has appointed a former cast member of "Million Dollar Listing San Francisco" as the managing broker of its Sarasota, Florida, office.

Elliman said this week that third-generation Sarasotan Andrew Greenwell took over the office in his hometown. He has more than 20 years of brokerage leadership and previously served as CEO of Venture Sotheby’s International Realty. Greenwell also led firms in Washington and Hawaii.

Elliman's Sarasota office currently has 18 agents and could grow to as many as 50, he said.

"It's a good opportunity to make my mark and create what we had out West," Greenwell told Homes.com.

He was one of the first cast members of "Million Dollar Listing San Francisco," the Bravo reality television show, when it premiered in 2015.

"It was trial by fire hose," Greenwell said. "One day you're comfortable in your usual group of friends and the next you're on TV in 117 countries. I enjoyed it, but I wouldn't do it again, given the lack of privacy for yourself and your family."

'Need a quiet summer'

New York-based Douglas Elliman is the nation's sixth-largest brokerage with $36.39 billion in sales volume last year, according to industry tracker RealTrends.

The firm's Sarasota office is one of three on the west coast of Florida, along with Naples and St. Petersburg. Greenwell replaces Matt Sevarino, formerly Elliman's managing broker for St. Petersburg and Sarasota.

Four hurricanes have hit southwest Florida since 2022, leading to declining home prices and concerns about living in such a storm-prone area.

"We need a quiet summer," Greenwell said. "Everybody is a little on edge. But we're bullish on the market, with the caveat that we have a quiet summer."

Like many native Floridians, he's big into boating. He also enjoys hiking, snow skiing and spending time with his 10-pound cockapoo, Violet.

Greenwell will work with his long-time business partner, Nikki Taylor, a Sarasota resident since 2000. She and Greenwell currently represent a listings portfolio totaling about $18 million, according to Douglas Elliman.

Also joining the brokerage in Sarasota are Kelly Mooney and Betsy Sublette. Mooney was contract manager for the Hyatt Residences on Siesta Key Beach, near Sarasota, while Sublette has worked nearly 30 years in the local real estate market.
