The late architect and real estate developer John Portman's one-time oceanfront vacation home in Georgia traded last week for $30 million, making it the priciest residential sale ever in the Peach State, the listing agents said.

Entelechy II at 113 E. 26th St. in Glynn County, Georgia, south of Savannah, was completed in 1986. The house on exclusive Sea Island mixes "pavilions, gallery-like spaces, water elements, sculptural works, vine-draped edges, and a grid-like roof supported by colossal columns on the property," according to marketing materials.

"It is truly a collector's item," co-listing agent Ann Harrell of DeLoach Sotheby's International Realty told Homes.com.

Harrell listed the property for $40 million in November 2024 with DeLoach's Susan Imhoff and Chase Mizell of Atlanta Fine Homes Sotheby's International Realty.

Harrell and Imhoff stated that they could not disclose sale details, except to confirm that they represented both the seller, the Portman Foundation, and the buyer in the transaction.

Sea Island, about 75 miles outside Savannah, is part of Georgia's Golden Isles that is surrounded by the ocean and marshes, where most homes fetch million-dollar prices, according to Homes.com. The island has its own ZIP code, 31561, that is a favorite among ultraluxury homebuyers, Imhoff said in an interview.

The 12,586-square-foot property has seven bedrooms, 8.5 bathrooms, a separate guest cottage, reflecting pools and a suspended walkway bridge linking the eastern and western pavilions, marketing materials show. Architectural Digest featured the home in 1987.

The estate is one of only two that Portman designed, according to Harrell and Imhoff. Portman, who died in 2017 at the age of 93, was considered a modern architect whose designs shaped the skylines of Atlanta and other major U.S. cities.
