Serhant, the real estate brokerage founded by the star of the "Owning Manhattan" reality show on Netflix, said it is expanding into the Washington, D.C., market with a stable of 35 listing agents who joined from other area companies.

While some agents have reported a slowdown in home sales in the nation's capital, Northern Virginia and suburban Maryland because of recent federal government layoffs, Serhant's principal broker for the new office said she remains confident.

“It’s always a good time in the D.C. market,” Maryanne Moyers told Homes.com. “The growth is here, with three jurisdictions we can expand into with one launch. We’ve had a little bit of a slowdown, but we’re still seeing multiple offer situations for homes that are move-in ready. There’s a lot of pent-up buyer energy.”

Moyers joined Serhant from Weichert’s office in Alexandria. Also new to the company are founding agents MJ Frazier, Lizzy Conroy and Antonio Nguyen, who came from Real Luxury, Keller Williams Realty and eXp, respectively.

Another major market where Serhant, which started in New York, expanded this year is Phoenix. The company began expanding into new cities in 2023.

Consumers tend to be aware of the agency through the star attraction of its founder, Ryan Serhant, who they see on television and social media, Moyers said. But she said what draws sellers to want to list their properties with the company is that it prioritizes the needs of its agents. In a statement Serhant released about the Washington expansion, Conroy cited the company’s “best-in-class technology, media, marketing, training, and operational support for its real estate professionals.”

“There’s so much more to it than the celebrity that is Ryan,” Moyers said. “A lot of people do know the name, but it’s the company they’re looking at. They know that everything we do is based on the agents, because that serves the clients.”

Serhant will have offices in the capital at Thomas Circle in the city’s Northwest, downtown Bethesda in Maryland, and McLean, Virginia. Moyers said each location was chosen because it’s near the areas where the company’s agents will be busiest.
