While some homebuyers love the fresh, modern experience of a newly built home, others are drawn to something more shadowy, especially during spooky season.
Picture a gothic atmosphere, perhaps with creaking floorboards, a few things that go bump in the night, or even a parlor that could hold a seance by moonlight. A home that you can picture Vincent Price describing in devilish detail.
A survey of more than 1,000 adults, conducted by mortgage company Rocket this month, found more than half of Americans would at least consider purchasing a haunted house. Of those surveyed, 23.3% said they live in a “haunted” house themselves, characterized by mysterious noises and apparitions.
However, there are dozens of homes currently on the market across the country that make no claims of being haunted, but do offer an autumnal, moody and sometimes witchy aesthetic for the discerning homebuyer. Here’s a collection of 13 homes — browse them if you dare:

It’s also designed by Alexander Jackson David, a leading Gothic Revival architect, for Edwards Pierrepont, a former U.S. attorney general.

$7,995,000

Stained glass, carved woodwork and stone details look back to this townhouse’s 17th-century origins. According to listing agent Eleanora Srugo of Douglas Elliman, the home was originally built in Amsterdam before being dismantled and shipped to New York City in 1845.
That wasn’t its last resting spot. The home was again moved in 1910 and updated, but architect Frederick J. Sterner, who was known for remodeling brownstones in New York and designing new buildings in Denver, according to the Colorado Office of Archaeology and Historic Preservation.
It was last owned by fashion designer Oleg Cassini and has a storied history of lavish parties.

Brick mansion next to Sleepy Hollow Lake
$1,199,000
Athens, New York
Past Sleepy Hollow Lake and down a long, tree-lined driveway sits a lone brick mansion that listing agent Richard Vizzini of Corcoran Country Living calls “Farview.”
But there’s no connection to Washington Irving’s 1820 short story “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow” or the 1999 Tim Burton film adaptation — so there’s little risk of seeing the Headless Horseman. Instead, homeowners gain membership to the recreational amenities of the 2.5-mile lake, including the tennis and pickleball courts and clubhouse. It’s also positioned less than a mile from the Hudson River.
Architect Andrew Jackson Downing designed the 1895-built home. Downing is known for his landscape architecture and designed homes to be harmonious with nature, according to The Art Institute of Chicago.
The home has exposed brick throughout the interior with wide plank floors, ceiling beams, a wood stove and country-style kitchen. Original woodwork and moldings can be found inside, and outside, there’s a heart-shaped stone garden. It comes with 3.24 acres.
