It was a challenging year for the Los Angeles housing market.
A week into 2025, fire razed thousands of homes valued at nearly $30 billion across the region. That catastrophe only exacerbated the existing strain on the region's housing market, which has long been burdened by limited supply and high prices.
And that's only considering the local issues. There was also the new presidential administration, national economic disruptions and an extended federal government shutdown.
Even so, the Los Angeles luxury market kept moving this year — clocking at least two sales over $100 million.
For one, a transfer of wealth has started manifesting in certain pockets of the market, according to a report from brokerage The Agency. Younger buyers who have the support of their parents have helped keep the market moving.
But more than that, Los Angeles is resilient, according to Catherine Yeh, director of market analytics at Homes.com.
"Despite mansion taxes and affordability hurdles, cash buyers and lifestyle-focused demand are driving deals," she told Homes.com. "With so few trophy homes available, standout properties are still commanding eye-popping prices."
The following findings are based on Homes.com data via the Multiple Listing Service. These findings are year to date and do not include off-market sales.
