Independence Christian School is a small, private elementary and middle school located on La Palma Avenue, just north of the Santa Ana River in Anaheim HIlls. The school serves approximately 160 students, from preschool through eighth grade. The overall student-teacher ratio is 12-to-1. Younger students at Independence Christian School are taught from a hands-on, developmentally appropriate curriculum and instructional strategies. These strategies include an emphasis on the basics while allowing children to explore learning through all five of their senses. As the students grow and mature, they are challenged to think critically about the subjects with an emphasis on practical application rather than just rote memorization. The elementary program provides an array of learning experiences in concentrated subject areas so that children are engaged in their studies and develop in all areas socially, emotionally, physically and cognitively through language, literacy, math and other disciplinary skills. Additionally, fun learning events such as spelling bees, math Olympics, speech meet, art festivals and Christmas and spring musicals occur throughout the year. The middle school program allows children in early adolescence to experience a rich and vibrant program that challenges them in diverse subject areas. In addition to the academic programs, students have the opportunity to participate in athletics, performing arts, music and more. Beyond their academic work and extracurricular activities, students at Independence Christian School have Bible class daily and attend chapel weekly.
