AHB Community School offers a progressive approach to learning that is focused on cultivating creativity, authenticity and joy.
At this “micro-school,” located in Austin’s Hyde Park neighborhood, students learn in mixed-age classrooms with a student-to-teacher ratio of 11-to-1. The school’s shortened week—three days for kindergarten and first graders, and four days for second through eighth graders—allows students the flexibility and time to have rich and engaged home lives or pursue outside passions. Sixth through eighth grade students have the option to add Fridays to work on community service initiatives, personal projects or prepare for high school admission.
At AHB, curriculum is thematic and interdisciplinary. Students take a deep dive into a topic and examine it from many angles. They tackle hands-on, collaborative projects and display their work in creative portfolios.

This little school is a haven for my middle schoolers. It is offering them a safe, engaged community during the tumultuous preteen years. Warning! As a former teacher of 10 yrs and a parent of a student who attended this school I'm very concerned. Because when students in the youngest classrooms are attacked or bullied, the administration does not apply discipline, or act competently, to make the school safe.
