The mission of Gullett Elementary School is “to provide an educational foundation that prepares each student to be a productive, socially responsible citizen and a lifelong learner.” Established in 1956, this unique public elementary school in the Allandale neighborhood is known for high academic standards and outstanding faculty, serving kids from pre-kindergarten through fifth grade.
The parent-teacher community at Gullett is close-knit and involved, and its creative curriculum is said to be exemplary. A concerted connection to nature is one focus that makes Gullett Elementary unique. Every classroom has its own garden, and every week students tend to it alongside parent volunteers. The school is also home to many animals, from geckos and rabbits to guinea pigs and fish. Gullett Geckos spend lots of time outdoors, both learning and playing.
Gullett’s curriculum follows a social emotional learning model, with a focus on building resiliency, emotional regulation skills, strong interpersonal and communication skills. The school is part of the Austin Independent School District.

Gullett is such a sweet school. The family involvement is great and everybody tries to take care of each other. The teachers have been great so far. Every classroom has a garden which is so fun and educational. Academics seem high, and I really like the principal, you can tell she really cares about...

I can't say enough good things about Gullett. The entire experience is one of engagement and togetherness. My kids love it. The teachers are, shockingly, happy and engaged as well. I feel lucky we found it and lucky our kids get to go there.
