Opened in 1980 and serving 979 students in sixth through eighth grades, Bell Gardens Intermediate is a traditional middle school that has been awarded the California State Seal of Biliteracy. Its principal, who himself attended the school as a teenager, rates its faculty and staff as “amazing and competent,” showing a great commitment to the students.
Student programs both curricular and extracurricular include AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination, an academic support program for seventh through twelfth grades), the California Youth Cinema Project (YCP) that brings industry professionals to guide students though the filmmaking process, and the “informative, structural and fun learning” after school All Stars program that includes help with homework, music, sports, dance and school trips.
