Established in 2014 as part of the New Schools for Phoenix incubator program, CASA Academy opened with a mission to help lower-income students achieve success and to close the opportunity gap. In 2020, the free public charter school moved to a new location with brand new facilities and playgrounds. Although CASA Academy currently serves children in kindergarten through fifth grade, the school plans to extend enrollment through the eighth grade in the future.
Here, the faculty believe in a philosophy that supports empowerment, perseverance, enthusiasm, respect, integrity, and responsibility. As for academics, the academy offers three and a half hours of instruction in reading and writing each day and works within a framework to promote literacy that includes targeted writing workshops tailored to students.
Math is the focus of nearly two hours of instruction per day, ranging from math reviews to individualized Rocket Math sessions. Character education is fully integrated into the curriculum among other standard subjects and includes weekly character development lessons and daily community circle gatherings where students can reflect on their day.
Outside of the classroom, CASA offers enrichment for students on a variety of field trips and assemblies, from visits to local museums and attractions to author visits and seasonal events.
