Alexander Graham Middle is the oldest school within walking distance of Barclay Downs. Located at 1800 Runnymede Ln., the school was built in 1920 and is ranked 10th among other middle schools in the Charlotte-Mecklenburg district. At Alexander Graham Middle, reading, math, and science proficiency rankings are above the state average. Most teachers working full-time at the school have three or more years of experience with each grade being given their own counselor. For any students seeking a more challenging level of learning, advanced courses are also available. Alexander Graham offers online and in-person tutoring for all subjects. Students can participate in several after-school clubs including chess, choir, and art. They have the option of playing sports such as track and field, volleyball, and football as an Alexander Graham Middle Bulldog. While each grade has a specific focus such as team building, art and culture or social justice and growth, all students are encouraged to engage in social emotional learning; a process for learning life skills, including how to handle their emotions, build relationships, and work in an effective manner. During the summer months, each grade level is administered a reading-oriented program. Sixth and seventh grade students are given a short list of books to read and are encouraged to finish at least one. When they return in August, sixth graders are given the opportunity to participate in discussions and review any new skills they’ve learned while seventh graders can complete a quiz based on their reading to earn extra credit. Eighth graders, unlike the previous students, are encouraged to read at least two books over their summer to improve their reading comprehension.

I have one child at AG and another who went through AG and is in HS. My son had a fantastic experience at AG. He was prepared for high school and made good friends. Middle school years can be rough, but AG is big enough that there are friends and activities for everyone.

We have been very pleased with AG Middle School. We currently have an 8th grade daughter and a 7th grade son who attend. Love the teachers and the principal.
