Founded in 1950, Dolores Mission School is a Catholic school serving students in kindergarten through eighth grade and operated by the Society of Jesus in the heart of Boyle Heights. An important part of the Dolores Mission Parish community, Dolores Mission School strives to educate the whole child academically, spiritually, physically and morally.
The school maintains its goal of empowering children to become educated leaders in their community and to “go forth and set the world on fire”. 60% of the student population is classified as English Language Learners. Unlike most parish schools, rather than being supported by its parishioners, Dolores Mission helps to support its families by working together with the community to promote safety and stability and offer a quality education in a nurturing environment.
A new facility that began construction in 2017 expands the school to allow 300 students. Parents are required to meet a specific amount of in-classroom volunteer hours. The school offers a variety of activities and opportunities that need volunteers to serve as chaperones, which allows parents to become involved.
