The public alternative school has been serving students in kindergarten through twelfth grade since 2011. Home of the Champions, Heritage Valley Independent Study is a small school averaging 20 to 30 students. While the goals of the program are varied, the primary focus is to ensure the individual needs of all students are met and all students are directed to acquiring the knowledge and skills they need for success. The focus in primary grades is literacy and mathematics, while the goal of secondary students is graduating from high school with the academic skills they need for success in college and career. The staff is committed to helping students realize their goals and each student, regardless of grade level, is provided his or her own laptop to work outside of the classroom.
