One of the first schools in the modern era of Alief after the Southwest Freeway connected it to the rest of Houston in 1961, Martin Elementary School is named after one of its earliest supporters. The father of six children, Mr. Martin wanted more than a one-room schoolhouse for his children. He helped found the Alief school district, which was officially recognized in 1917. Since its opening in 1970, Martin Elementary School has been renovated and added to several times. Today’s Martin Elementary enrolls about 880 students in pre-kindergarten through fourth grade. To address academic deficiencies, Martin offers Mustang Learning Academy, a free morning and afternoon tutorial program. The afternoon program provides complimentary snacks and transportation. Other after-school offerings open to students in second through fourth grades include running and art clubs. Upper elementary students can participate in GAP Boys and Girls clubs. GAP students are paired with mentors who support them in all facets of their lives, and they work collaboratively on community projects. For English language learners, Martin offers programs including early-exit bilingual and English as a second language. The goal of the programs is to help English language learners become proficient in listening, speaking, reading and writing.

One is honor role and the other has always struggled in class due to attention problem. Some of the teachers are very good and really care about their student but I have notice...

I understand all of you who have issues with the fact that Martin may have a focus in certain grades on the TAKS test. But have you taken your child to any other school? I work at a local university and one of the problems that we continue to encounter are students who are not prepared for our first...

I agree with the bad reviews. The school is very test driven. Everything is TAKS. If your child is smart and doesn't need to be taught for the test, don't send him/her there. HISD has great Vanguard and Magnet schools with the gifted program. They actually teach your child to think, not to take a te...
