Home of the Huskies, Nieto Herrera Elementary is a beautiful Spanish colonial-style school on the corner of Temple Avenue and East 17th street. The school was first named Lee Elementary and renamed after Olivia Nieto Herrera, an advocate for disadvantaged residents. The school's values are inspired by its legacy of Olivia and include community involvement, hard work and character. Instructing grades K-5, there are over 800 students. Nieto Herrera Elementary School provides resources such as research sites, science fair ideas and keyboarding skill practice sites. The school has a Gifted and Talented Education program, a fictional monetary program called Paw Cash for prizes and an after-school program called WRAP for academic support. The elementary school enforces a no bully zone policy to stop bullying. Students at Nieto Herrera Elementary School are proud to be Huskies and have a great role model to look up to, based on its namesake.
