Smith, who was the superintendent of Mesa Public Schools from 1967 to 1984. Smith Junior High sits on a large campus, and balances academics with a wide range of after-school programs. The school also has special programming for students with learning disabilities, including a speech pathologist and a specialist in autism spectrum disorders. Offering 12 sports teams, a drama program, music classes and various clubs, the school is dedicated to providing both academic and extracurricular options to students. Among some of their unique programs are anime and Lego clubs, plus the National Academic League, a quiz show program where the Sidewinders compete against other schools across the country. Competing in the league can ultimately lead to scholarships and give students a way to showcase their academic prowess.

Great experience, the honors program prepares you well for high school. Security is taken seriously and there was always a teacher who cared about my success.

The only D rated junior high in Maricopa County. Students very unmotivated and well below grade level. Administrators were unsupportive of teachers, putting most of the school discipline on teachers. 2 teachers were assaulted with 1 month of each other. Look for other places to send your kids.
