Established in 1988, Sousa Elementary School is a public school in Northeast Mesa. The school is named after the famous music composer, John Philip Sousa, who is best known for composing timeless American military marches. “Reach for the Stars” is the school motto, which is demonstrated every day by Sousa’s kindergarten through sixth grade students. The school colors are an appropriate red, white and blue and the school's mission represents a deep commitment to each child through student-centered learning. In the 2020-2021 school year, the school implemented the Next Education Workforce model, a personalized form of learning that utilizes a team comprised of a lead teacher and four educators specializing in music, physical education, media and technology. Three additional certified teachers, a special education teacher and a retired teacher also assist with reading assessments and literacy instruction. This student enrichment team focuses solely on a group of 100-plus first and second graders, ensuring every student is set up for academic success. Students at Sousa Elementary School learn the importance recognizing their own strengths, working collaboratively with others and always communicating with kindness and respect. With a strong guiding mission, this public elementary school is a great option for students in the Northeast Mesa neighborhood.

Safety is not taken seriously. If you don’t mind your child harassed and physically attacked by others then you’ll have no problem here. Punishments include even students who did not participate within the activity. Adding to further animosity amongst the students impacting their relationships with...

No communication or discipline coming from a mom whose kid has needed it and also needed the school to discipline other kids as well. Physical and verbal harassment at its finest. My kid did not feel safe here, and I have tried communicating with staff all year long including the district with nothi...

If I could have given this school 0 stars I would have. I cannot believe the lack of support that my daughter received at this school. She was bullied by multiple people and the school refused to do anything about it. She was basically told she needed to just ignore the bullies and endure their beha...

If I could give zero stars, I would. These people did not feed my daughter. First day of school, and the school failed. I am absolutely livid.
