Thirteenth Avenue School, also called Dr. MLK, Jr. School, is a great educational option for the students of Newark. The school’s mission and curriculum are built on providing all students with a strong academic foundation through high quality, standards-based instruction to prepare them for lifelong success. Thirteenth Avenue School encourages and fosters an environment of collaboration between students, parents and teachers where students feel safe and challenged on the path to meet their full potential. Known as “The Pride of Newark,” it’s always full steam ahead at Thirteenth Avenue School’s annual S.T.E.A.M. fair, where students in grades prekindergarten through eighth are engaged in a robust curriculum including science, technology, engineering, arts and math. Students at this public school are always eager to learn and participate in all the extracurriculars the school has to offer, such as debate, sports, student council, robotics, drama, chorus and cheerleading. Amazon also recently announced its renewed support of the “I Have A Dream” Foundation of New Jersey, which is designed to assist students at Thirteenth Avenue School through supply donations, special programs and academic enrichment.

This school is mediocre. The teachers do not care about their students, my daughter had two incidents while the teacher was not even paying attention to her, according to her teacher my daughter broke a plastic bucket and cut herself in the neck..
