Ahwatukee families with academically gifted elementary-aged children gravitate to Horizon Honors Elementary School for its accelerated and award-winning learning program. As a tuition-free public charter school, Horizon Honors has won numerous awards for its K-6 program including the prestigious distinction of being an “A+ of School of Excellence” by the Arizona Department of Education. Founded in 1996, Horizon Honors focuses on challenging students while ensuring they receive a well-balanced education. One of the distinguishing attributes of Horizon Honors is its multi-grade groupings, which allow students to be placed in classes based on their academic abilities as well as their grade. This approach fosters leadership skills, problem-solving abilities, and character development. Horizon Honors teachers are constantly assessing and integrating the latest education trends into their curriculum to deliver a hands-on style of learning. The goal? To foster a connection between what students learn in the classroom and the real world. With an annual enrollment of about 800 students, Horizon Honors offers a small teacher-student ratio. In addition to academics, students are invited to explore special content areas to find their interests and passions. These areas include physical education, Spanish, music, and Communications classes, along with band or chorus offered to fifth and sixth grade. Horizon Honors’ sister school, Horizon Honors Secondary School, allows a seamless transition to grades seven through high school—a favorite feature for families who want a consistent educational experience.

Horizon school knows each and every student's strengths and needs. They can work on advanced skills and above grade level academic content without having to place the child at a different grade level or pulling them from their peers. They welcome parent involvement and have no problems with parents in the room assisting at any time.

My daughter attended this school for a few months and I had to pull her out because she was experiencing bullying, the school made her feel as if she was the problem and had her get help rather than disciplining the other children who were bullying. If you child is colored or even mixed, stay far fr...

We are very happy with the approach the elementary school makes with regards to academics, curriculum, and policies. The focus is on learning and growing. There are plenty of after school activities. The parents are great. It is a great learning community!

We moved out of the public in-district school because the learning style was very out dated. The concern in the public district schools seems to be focusing only on making sure students who are behind the average for grade level get all of the attention. Students who are performing at level or above...
