Featuring a unique bilingual approach to education, the French American School of Rhode Island (FASRI), located on Wickenden Street in the Fox Point neighborhood, is an independent, international home to students ages preschool through eighth grade. Founded in 1994, the school currently enrolls 175 students from over 12 countries, many of which, as it turns out, didn't speak French upon entering. FASRI boasts accreditation from both sides of the Atlantic Ocean, from France's Ministere de l'Education Nationale, and from the Rhode Island Board of Education. The learning approach at FASRI is intended to be multicultural and multilingual, with the idea that opening students' minds to multiple cultures will create greater global awareness, sensitivity, and insight. FASRI also maintains the same academic rigor of the French government while also adhering to the elevated standards of American private schools. FASRI also runs a program called “Passport Class” for students ages 6-10. The class is an intensive bilingual education run by a specialized French language instructor.

We had a great experience at fasri. It has strong academics all around, great teachers, and a wonderful community. Our grandchildren are there now, and are having a wonderful experience, and our son went on to be top of his class at another local private school for high school. He was then accepted to several Ivy League schools and other top universities, and now has a great job. We credit the global experience and the excellent teachers for his success.
