Renown reformer, Robert L. Bailey worked for the Rhode Island Department of Education as Civil Rights Specialists for nearly 20 years, in addition to many other important nonprofit activities like Affirmative Action and Providence’s Urban League. Today, the school that boasts his name is looking to follow in his footsteps by establishing a community of students, families, and teachers all working together to create a better community. There are many civic programs and charitable events held at the school, including food drives, talent shows, multicultural festivals, and holiday benefits. Together, administrators and teachers help to establish priorities for their students, including an emphasis on succeeding first in middle and high school and then looking towards college. Robert L. Bailey IV Elementary School is also a full-service Community School and collaborates with local business partners for the betterment of their students and the community. The school also features something called "Bailey Buddies," a program for 5th graders to begin serving as a role model for their peers. These students, if selected, perform special jobs, escort visitors, tutor, and assist teachers with various classroom responsibilities.
