Rockdale Visual and Performing Arts Magnet is a kindergarten through sixth grade elementary school situated in the Eagle Rock neighborhood. Students at Rockdale elementary achieve above average test scores which places this highly performing school within the top 30% of all schools in California. Known as a Title IX school, the educational environment promotes a discrimination-free culture allowing greater focus on study and development.
Children between first and sixth grade participate in the Magnet programs specifically oriented around the arts and creative expression. Studies focus on visual arts, drama, dance and vocal music. While partnerships with television production, arts centers, opera and dance theaters support student learning and artistic thought processes. Numerous hands-on experiences and projects enable education through movement and group activities.
Play time is full of school yard games like basketball and handball, and jungle gyms where children climb, swing or slide. If your child is interested in relaxing with a book, they can select from a wide variety of reading found in the school library and can even enjoy the books in the reading garden. Parents can also share in Family Literacy Night and check out books to take home. Rockdale’s school setting is small, yet there is enough space for an edible garden and sustainability education, as well.

Superb teachers and staff who go above and beyond to teach you something new and interest you, nice campus, and well behaved students are just some of the amazing things about this school....
