GreatSchools Rating
The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.

Palos Verdes Peninsula High School is a place that focuses heavily on academics and extracurriculars relating to academics. Going to college is the norm and people dedicate their lives to ensure that they get into a prestigious college. The art, music, and theater programs are great. The sports are good, but the facilities are underfunded and compared to other schools nearby, we are not that good. I want to see more people do things that are not required for college.

I think the worst part is how run down the school is. So many of our facilities are in need of a fixer upper, even the buildings themselves are honestly falling apart. I look at the other local schools such as Redondo and Mira Costa and even Palos Verdes, all of whom are situated in affluent communities like us, and it seems like they take care of the school better.

The best part about Palos Verdes Peninsula High School was how much it prepared me for college courses. PVPHS was not a breeze. I took honors and AP classes and studied pretty hard to get where I am now. However, looking back, I can see how beneficial PVPHS was as college classes are much easier than I expected them to be. The only downside of our school is the lack of school spirit regarding sporting events. I would like to see more support for our sports teams in the future.

Peninsula High School might have a decent reputation, but in my experience, it was far from great. I’m in college now, and I still carry the weight of how poorly some teachers treated me. I had an English teacher during my freshman year who clearly didn’t like me. I was struggling with depression at...

The academics are quite good. The athletics are a completely different story Be prepared to be "asked" to play for the coaches club enterprise or get comfortable with a seat on the bench. No meritocracy here.I've witnessed this with not only with my kids but with other kids as well.Pay to be on their...

It is a good school. Compared to all of the public schools in Los Angeles Country, it is a top 10 school as far as preparing young people for college. The parents and students put a lot of pressure on themselves. I think the students and parents push harder than the teachers. My son went there for f...

My son graduated from this school 3 years ago. He made friends and got involved in academic competition clubs. He is currently finishing his last year in Computer Science at UC Berkeley. My daughter is in 11th grade at this school right now. This is a big high school and the campus size prepares the...
