Opened in 2021, Pioneer Technology & Arts Academy (PTAA) is a tuition-free public charter school serving students in kindergarten through eighth grade for the Phoenix area. Here, the teachers follow a mission to inspire and engage students through an inquiry-based STEAM curriculum.
With an emphasis on technology, the school hopes to increase the diversity of students entering fields in science, engineering, and math to help everyone build a better future. Although the Phoenix school is too new for national rankings, its sister Pioneer Technology schools in Texas have ranked as the top three middle schools in their state. Needless to say, the faculty and staff here are excited to help students to excel in similar fashion.
Most notably, the school offers small class sizes and believes in placing students in grades based on their individual aptitude. Daily instruction includes STEAM and tech classes founded in project-based learning, and PTAA integrates the arts (the A in STEAM) to help foster creativity in all subject areas. Students also have opportunities to take Spanish or Mandarin as their world language.
Among the extracurriculars, aspiring engineers can compete in robotics competitions or students needing more athletic outlets can play volleyball, disc golf, or other sports.

I in all honesty would not recommend this school. First, the air conditioning and heater have been broken since the first day and they haven't bothered to fix it! Second their bathrooms are terrible and ruined, only 1/4 of the stalls are available for use and it reeks! To add to this they have taken...
