Marina Middle School is a public school serving the Marina District neighborhood in the Northeast quarter of San Francisco. The school serves approximately 790 students from sixth to eighth grades on its 3500 Fillmore Street campus, while encouraging a strong sense of community involvement.
Built in 1936, Marina Middle stands as a sprawling art deco building with facilities to service a large student body. The school offers an expansive library complete with Chromebooks and textbooks for a relaxed study environment. The gymnasium is fully equipped for PE courses ranging from introduction to sports, bicycling, bowling and mixed martial arts. Students can also participate in the school’s soccer, softball, basketball, volleyball, or track and field teams.
Students at Marina generally test higher than the national average for academics and the student-to-teacher ratio of 21-to-1 is just below the California average. In addition to general education, students select from such electives as band, orchestra, art, video media, and Arabic language and culture. Marina Middle School partners with Marina Beacon Center to provide opportunities for students to participate in such off-campus activities as hiking, camping and sailing.
The home of the Penguins is dedicated to providing a nurturing learning environment to support their students' transition from elementary to middle school before preparing them for a successful launch into high school.
