My school is a college preparation school that revolves around self-directed learning. The best part is that I can complete work at my own pace because I like to be ahead as much as possible. The hardest part about my school is that they are lacking in extracurriculars. My last school Summit Denali shut down and I came to Tahoma looking for that same self-directed learning. I'm not one to enjoy busy work so the self-directed process works well for me.

At this school, I felt as though I mattered, like I meant something to the school and the teachers. This could come from the fact that the school was really tight knit & everyone there seemed to support each other. Speaking from my experience at other schools, at some, the environment is so competitive & I don't see much of students being happy for others or supporting others. I also value how supported I was as a person, and I wasn't being purely defined by my academics. Even though this may seem "bad", personally, I was encouraged to try harder (in fact, it gave me the space to try harder) as I was not as mentally drained. They set high hopes for each and every student, but they encourage me to strive for those goals in a manner which was not as emotionally stressing as my parents did.

Not always the most put-together but otherwise a positive environment with loving, support teachers that try their best. A mostly self-guided way of learning with help always available if necessary

Tahoma has been a wonderful alternative small charter high school for our family. My son is graduating this year and has grown from a very shy teenager into a happy, healthy, and caring young man nurtured by the supportive teachers and a welcoming community of students. Tahoma has strong and proacti...

Tahoma is, I feel, often overlooked because of its location (tucked away on a corner of the Oak Grove High School campus). But looks can be deceiving. I have put one child through Tahoma (she graduated last year and was accepted to UCLA) and have a second child who will be graduating in 2027. The ac...
