Founded in 1995 as a model for education in a diverse community, New Roads School is a fully accredited college-preparatory independent school serving approximately 520 students in kindergarten through twelfth grade. New Roads limits class size to no more than 20 students per class, and instead of AP classes offers an advanced honors curriculum and program of independent study.
The school allocates 30-40 percent of its budget to generous, need-based financial aid, and is successful at college placement as all New Roads graduates who seek admission to colleges or universities gain admission. Along with cultivating intellectual rigor, building real-world skills and running a varied athletics program, the school places an emphasis on developing values such as independent thinking, curiosity and commitment to the common good.
Described as one of the most progressive schools in Los Angeles and one that truly lives its mission, New Roads engages its “village” of teachers, parents and other adults in fostering learning and acquiring the skills and tools needed for full intellectual, social, political, moral and personal fulfillment. One parent declared that “New Roads is a great community comprised of people who truly care about education, the well-being of children, and finding harmony between a strong academic foundation and a supportive, nurturing environment.”

This school is creative, and yet rigorous. The arts are excellent here but so are the academic opportunities. In Debate, Math, Creative Writing, they are recognized nationally.
