Gulf Avenue Elementary School is a STEAM-based elementary school in Wilmington that serves a predominately Latino student population.
As a magnet school with a focus on science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics emphasis, Gulf Avenue students are introduced to skills of the future at a very young age. One of the pillars of being a STEAM magnet school is the incorporation of technology into the classroom; Gulf Avenue students have access to digital textbooks and personal devices. Educators believe that when technology is leveraged, students are better prepared to adapt and embrace skills that will be highly valued in years to come.
With about half of the student population speaking English as a second language, the English Learner Advisory Committee (ELAC) aims to meet the needs of their English learners. From one-on-one instruction and customized plans, ELAC helps bridge the curriculum so no student is left behind.
A welcoming entrance greets students into Gulf Avenue with oversized trees and green grass, curb appeal that has stood the test of time since the school opened in 1923.

The school is one of the worst in the city. The Teacher’s need more training as well as the Principal. My family generation after generation has attended this school for the past 30 years and these past 2 years have been a huge downgrade.

Gulf Avenue is. Wonderful school that cares about their kids. They help to teach more than academics by teaching kids to swim and ensure that they learn how to be successful in school and in life.
