For students who attended one of several science-based public elementary schools in Wilmington, Wilmington Middle School allows the opportunity to continue their science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics (STEAM) education. Open to students from sixth to eighth grade, Wilmington Middle School not only prepares students for skills they will need in the future; the well-rounded curriculum prepares them for careers in the five STEAM focus areas. As a magnet school, Wilmington Middle School participates in the district-wide program that allows public schools to provide emphasis on a focused theme. In operation since 1949, Wilmington Middle School has a total enrollment of about 1,500 students. In addition to being exposed to STEAM curriculum, classrooms adhere to California Common Core State Standards. Traditional textbooks and online tools are both available to students during the learning process through the StudySync English Language Arts instructional program, mathematics, history, and social sciences. STEAM-based electives like robotics and forensics are unique offerings for a middle school in this area. For those who need it, additional support like special education and English as a Second Language, is available.
