Quail Hollow is a leafy suburb south of Charlotte’s Center City. Like many neighboring communities, it offers quick access to retail centers, parks and schools. What sets it apart is its closeness to the exclusive Quail Hollow Club, the host of the PGA Tour’s Wells Fargo Cup. “It’s the premier place to play golf in Charlotte,” says Realtor Gabe Cicala, who sells homes in the area with Matt Stone Real Estate. Buyers will find a kind community of families, Uptown professionals and retirees. “People who relocate often say, ‘Gosh, everyone is so friendly,’” says Tina Hicks, a Realtor with Helen Adams Realty, who’s lived in the neighborhood for two decades. “Different subdivisions have social events. Most are geared towards families with young kids, but you still feel a good neighborly sense.”

Colonial Revivals and ranch-style homes on large lots
Quail Hollow is a sprawling network of subdivisions connected by wide roads, sometimes lined with sidewalks, that climb up and down hills and over small creeks. The neighborhood’s thick canopy of trees shades spacious yards, typically over 1/3 of an acre. Properties are neatly landscaped with garden beds and shapely shrubs. Built from the 1960s through today, single-family homes come in various designs, from brick ranch-style homes and split-levels to regal Colonial Revivals with attached two-car garages and grand custom two-story builds. “Every home is a little different. Everything has been worked on and loved,” says Lindsay Redfern, a Quail Hollow resident and Realtor with Cottingham & Chalk. Most homes cost between $500,000 and $700,000, but custom homes start at $900,000 and top $1 million. Condos range from $160,000 for a one-bedroom unit to nearly $400,000 for a renovated three-bedroom. Townhouses are available in the $300,000s. Redfern adds that some subdivisions have voluntary homeowners associations that organize events and maintain landscaping in shared areas.

Free pizza motivates young readers at Carmel Middle School
There are two public school pathways for Quail Hollow students. Most start at Huntingtowne Farms Elementary, which sits in the heart of the neighborhood. The school receives a C-plus rating from Niche and offers an International Baccalaureate program designed for children three to 12 years old. Families can support the school’s passionate PTA by “renting” and painting the school spirit rock to share positive messages and celebrate achievements. Carmel Middle is a little over 4 miles east of the neighborhood. The school gets a B-plus and encourages students to read through a monthly challenge called “Read A Slice, Have A Slice.” Students who meet reading goals and demonstrate comprehension with a book review will earn a free large pizza from Hathorne’s New York Pizza. South Mecklenburg High, commonly called “South Meck,” is just south of the neighborhood. It earns an A-minus and has several championship-winning sports teams, including soccer and baseball. Quail Hollow is near several private schools, such as the A-plus-rated Charlotte Country Day School and the unrated Anami Montessori School.

Golf greats play at Quail Hollow Club
The neighborhood is next to the private Quail Hollow Club, home to the PGA Tour’s Wells Fargo Championship. Hicks says that each May, the event turns this normally quiet neighborhood into a bustling center of activity. “As neighbors, we all embrace it. We have to buckle down and get ready for lots of traffic, but it brings so much to the community. Kids set up lemonade stands. People with golf carts pick people up.” The club is set to host the PGA Championship in 2025. The Little Sugar Creek Greenway runs along the neighborhood’s west side. “You’ve got miles and miles of greenway to walk and bike. It’s flat and easy to use. There are a few places to park along it if you can’t walk to it,” Redfern says. The trail connects to several green spaces, including the over 200-acre Park Road Park. With a large playground and picnic shelter, it’s a popular spot for birthday parties. The park is also a center for youth sports, as it features various athletic fields and courts for tennis, softball, and baseball. Residents can join the South Park Swim and Tennis Club or the James J. Harris Branch Family YMCA for access to pools, summer camps and social events.

Everyday essentials are available at Quail Corners
The neighborhood sits along Park Road, a main connector providing quick access to retail. Harris Teeter anchors Quail Corners. The shopping center is home to Waterbean Coffee, a hip spot for a latte and a bagel. Rusty’s Deli & Grill, a lunchtime staple, is a few doors down. “It’s unchanged. The inside looks like it did 30 years ago, which is part of the nostalgia of the neighborhood. It’s a classic,” Redfern says. Salsarita’s Fresh Mexican Grill is popular for its burritos, quesadillas and nachos. SouthPark Mall, host to dozens of national brands like Nordstrom, Macy’s and Tommy Bahama, is about 3 miles northeast. Whole Foods Market sits across the street. Legion Brewing is nearby, offering a family-friendly spot to enjoy craft beer on a brick patio.

Multiple ways to get around Charlotte
While residents are known to walk around the neighborhood and to Quail Hollow Club, the community is car-dependent. Interstate 485 is nearby, but Redfern says, “You don’t have to get on the highway to get to most places.” Selwyn Avenue provides a nearly 8-mile commute into Uptown, and a 10 ½-mile drive down Billy Graham Parkway leads to Charlotte Douglas International Airport. Public transportation is a popular option. City buses loop around the neighborhood with stops on Park Road, Archdale Drive and Sharon Road West, and a light rail station is less than 4 miles away. “People who work uptown use the light rail if they don’t want to drive and pay for parking. A lot of people use it for a Panthers game or a Knights game,” Hicks says. The Panthers compete in the National Football League. The Knights are a Minor League affiliate of the Chicago White Sox.
Residents of Quail Hollow are only a short drive away from the LYNX light rail.
