In between a shopping center and green spaces
Northeast Ames is between a shopping center and a 25-acre park, about 2 miles from downtown, where people go for summertime art walks and the annual holiday parade. “It’s a quiet part of town with easy access to I-35 and pretty much anything else you’d need,” says Realtor Steve Bock, who sells homes in the neighborhood with RE/MAX. “There’s quality education and a low cost of living, so it’s a great place to raise a family or retire to.” Most of the neighborhood’s midcentury homes are priced below the city’s median, so it’s an attractive place for first-time buyers. It's also close to Mary Greeley Medical Center, which is a mile south of the neighborhood.

Midcentury single-family homes
“Everything is developed, so it hardly ever changes,” Bock says. The median single-family home price is roughly $325,000, and prices range from $230,000 to $370,000. Almost all the houses are midcentury ranch styles with brick or wooden exteriors. On the neighborhood’s southwest corner, there are two apartment buildings. Mature trees shade most of the neighborhood. Unlike many of Ames’ neighborhoods, almost none of the homes are threatened by flooding.
