A booming community
Just 9 miles from Uptown Charlotte, Montclaire South is a tranquil and established community with many accessible conveniences. The neighborhood parallels South Boulevard in the east and merges with Interstate 77 in the west. A healthy mixture of commercial and residential areas tells a story of transition and growth in Montclaire South. "In the past, this area, specifically along South Blvd, was mostly light industrial, warehouses, etc., but over the last 10 to 20 years, there has been an explosion of housing developments," says librarian Robert Stoker, from the Carolina Room of the Charlotte Mecklenburg Library, who has lived in the area for 25 years. Stoker attributes the construction of I-77 and the introduction of the Blue Line light rail to the growth of this boomtown. Summers can get hot and humid, with temperatures rising to the low 90s.

Architecturally, the neighborhood comprises split levels and modest brick ranch-style homes, which range in price from $151,000 to $516,000. Average yard sizes are around 1/4 acre, large enough for a small garden. Most houses do not have garages and require driveway or street parking.
