French and Colonial Revivals
Mountainbrook's low-lying midcentury ranch-style homes and new traditional farmhouses fit neatly into the area's sloping terrain. Many houses sit at an angle on large, wooded lots that sweep out onto azalea-lined paths and trickling streams. French Revival mansions and symmetrical Colonial Revivals add to the regal nature of the neighborhood. In general, houses fall between $700,000 and $2 million in price, with the median at $1 million. "There is no inventory here. Things are selling super-fast, and land is very tight," says Nancy Lawler, vice president of marketing at The Redbud Group and a Charlotte native. Given their higher price point than in surrounding neighborhoods, houses sell after being on the market for above the national average but are still considered limited and coveted.Feed the ducks or play pick-up games
Carmel Road Park has tennis courts, a basketball court, a baseball diamond and a playground in town. West of the neighborhood by 10 minutes is Park Road Park. This popular outdoor destination has a volleyball court, a large playground and many walking trails. Residents can also feed the ducks while sitting on the benches surrounding the park's duck pond.A nationally ranked high school
Mountainbrook families with school-aged children are often attracted to the neighborhood's wealth of high-achieving regional schools. While many residents may choose to send their children to the area's private schools, public school students attend the consistently well-performing Charlotte-Mecklenburg district. Beverly Woods Elementary is rated an A-minus on Niche.com and is a short drive away for the town's residents. The A-minus-rated Alexander Graham Middle School and A-rated Myers Park High neighbor each other and are just over 3 miles north of Mountainbrook. Myers Park High sits on a 62-acre campus with 13 buildings. Inspired by a small college, this high school offers an outstanding college preparatory program and has ranked in the top 100 high schools in the United States for five consecutive years.Volunteer organized annual events
Each year, the Mountainbrook Civic Association holds community events. An annual Easter Egg Hunt, Fall Picnic, Halloween party and other events take place through neighborhood members' volunteered time and funds. This year, there is even a mac n' cheese and chili cook-off set in the late summer.A short commute to Uptown
Commuters can reach Uptown Charlotte in 8 to 12 miles, depending on the route. Mountainbrook is conveniently surrounded by two interstates, though many residents will bypass highway traffic and travel along the more scenic Carmel and Providence roads. There are few sidewalks in town, but the quiet and wide streets make the neighborhood walkable for leisure. Still, most are car-dependent for errands and necessities. The Charlotte Douglas International Airport is just over 10 miles northwest of Mountainbrook.Minutes away from Charlotte’s largest shopping destination
The neighborhood is highly residential, with very few stores or restaurants. However, "One of Mountainbrook's bestselling features is the proximity to the nearby mall. It's got every premier shop in the United States," notes Lawler. Mountainbrook is a stone's throw down Sharon View Road from Charlotte's largest shopping destination, SouthPark Mall. The shopping center's directory is evolving quickly, including everything from Nordstrom to Apple to an assortment of luxury favorites. SouthPark also serves as a one-stop shop for gas, groceries and other errands at the same intersection. Kids and adults love Golden Cow Creamery for their decadent, homemade ice cream selection. Residents head to BAKU, a swanky modern Japanese cuisine spot, for a fun evening out. The restaurant is best known for its skewered meats, sushi and sashimi served from an open-concept kitchen.
