Fairview
Suburban Neighborhood in Dayton, Ohio
Montgomery County 45405, 45406
Historic foursquares and fixer-uppers
Small yards and well-traveled sidewalks follow the roads of Fairview. Driveways and garages aren’t standard, necessitating street parking. An eclectic mixture of home styles in various states of preservation, including ranch, bungalows, American Foursquare and Craftsman, dot the landscape. Most homes were built in the first decades of the 20th century, says Tracey Bitonti, who has worked as a Realtor with Irongate Inc. for over 30 years. “When some of the homes in the area hit the market, they feature renovations,” she says. “But not all of them.” As a result, the area has become popular with fans of home projects and investors. “As-is” American foursquare homes start in the mid-$10,000s, with more renovated bungalows reaching the mid-$60,000s. A centennial Craftsman with a full basement can hit the low-$100,000s, while a fully restored brick ranch will peak in the low $200,000s.18 holes at Miami Valley Golf Club
Located at the center of Fairview is Fairview Park, a public green space with acres of running space, playground equipment and a splash pad for when the summer heat starts kicking in. Fans of hitting the links will want to visit the Miami Valley Golf Club in nearby Fort McKinley. Established in 1919, this former host of the PGA Championship offers an 18-hole, par 71 golf course with a complete practice facility and weekly member events.STEM at Thurgood Marshall High
Ohio offers Open Enrollment, which allows students to attend any school, regardless of their current district. Students might begin their education at Fairview Elementary School, which has a D-plus on Niche, before heading to Edwin Joel Brown Middle School, which scores a C-minus. Finally, they can enroll at Thurgood Marshall STEM High School, which scores a C-minus and features career pathways in biotechnology, health sciences and more.Celebrate Ireland in the summer
First Fridays in Dayton are celebrated with live music, all kinds of food vendors and access to participating local businesses, including comedy clubs, performance venues and restaurants. Summer is also the time for the Dayton Celtic Fest, a celebration of Irish culture held every year since 2002.Downtown Dayton via Salem Avenue
Fairview is bordered on its west side by Salem Avenue, a busy thoroughfare that provides direct access to downtown Dayton, some 3 miles south. Frequent public transportation users can take advantage of Dayton RTA, which provides bus service throughout the city with pickups on a roughly half-hour basis. Several stops are located in the Fairview neighborhood following Salem Avenue.Catch the game at The Front Row
While several familiar fast food options, like Arby’s and Wendy’s, are readily available, many locals visit The Front Row Bar and Grill when they want something special. The Front Row is particularly popular during football and basketball season, with a menu of classic bar food favorites and several big-screen TVs. The nearby Walgreens and AM PM Market are available to keep the fridge fully stocked.
