Bluff Park
Bluff Park, the beach and more recreation
The big draw to Bluff Park is, of course, its namesake beachfront park. “We have a really nice coastal marine layer right now, so it stays cool for a nice jog or walk down at the ocean level. We have a bluff that extends two or three stories above the ocean, and you can walk a dog along the bluff. A perfect morning is walking the dog and getting a cup from Rose Park Roasters, one of the best coffee spots in the area,” says Realtor and President of Bluff Heights Neighborhood Association Stephen Sutton. From the park, residents can climb down stairs to reach the city’s main beach. It has basketball courts and the Shoreline Bike Path, which provides over 4 miles of multipurpose trails for running and biking. Right next to Bluff Park is Bixby Park, where children climb on a playground, furry friends run at a dog park and skateboarders grind rails at a skatepark. It also hosts regular community events like a farmers market, movie nights and live music in a bandshell.Historic homes walkable to the ocean
Bluff Park’s entire southern edge is the city’s main beach. “Bluff Park is coastal, right along Ocean Boulevard, so it’s the two blocks along the bluff. It's wonderful. You have the ocean views but also Ocean Boulevard traffic, so it’s a double-edged sword,” Sutton says. The streets are lined with palm trees and close-set yards landscaped with rose bushes and yucca. “There are condos and single-family homes. It’s more dense than Bluff Heights with more apartment and condo buildings,” Sutton says. One of the historic districts of Long Beach, Bluff Park has a diverse range of architecture, with houses dating back to the 1910s. The styles include Craftsman homes, Mediterranean homes and chateaus inspired by 1800s Parisian palaces. Craftsman homes range from $1 million to $3.4 million, while condos start from $325,000 and go up to $1.2 million, with prices on the higher end for waterfront properties.A bevy of retail on East Broadway
Residents can find endless shopping and dining in Bluff Park. "There are a lot of restaurants and coffee shops, and you’re going to see a lot of people walking around. It’s an active and bustling neighborhood," says Beatrix Whipple, Realtor with the Whipple Group who has over two decades of experience in the area Right on the beach, there’s a restaurant called Saltwater Deck, where patrons order through the window. The eatery’s takeout breakfasts and sandwiches come in boxes decorated with pop art images of American icons, like LeBron James, Drake and Baby Yoda. The neighborhood also borders East Broadway, where residents can find Chinese restaurants, pubs and vegan eateries. La Parolaccia, on the corner of East Broadway and Orizava Avenue, sells housemade pasta and bread, and serves pizza baked in a wood-fired oven as well as other Roman classics. It’s a popular spot and can have a wait. To pick up groceries, they can stop by Olives Gourmet Grocer. The Long Beach Museum of Art
On top of the bluffs is the Long Beach Museum of Art, which features rotating exhibits, a permanent collection and a sculpture garden. Visitors never know what they’ll discover, from furniture and tableware designed in California to pieces created by local elementary school kids. The art museum also has a restaurant called Claire’s at the Museum, which has an outdoor patio with panoramic views of the ocean, Catalina Island and the Queen Mary.Well-rated Long Beach Unified schools
Students in the area are served by the Long Beach Unified School District, which earns an A grade from Niche. Mann Elementary School has a B-plus rating, while Jefferson Leadership Academies , a public middle school, has a B grade. Woodrow Wilson High features an A rating. With 150 clubs, the school has activities ranging from a banned book club to stand-up comedy. It also has a reputation for producing Olympic athletes.2 miles to downtown Long Beach and more logistics
Bluff Park is about 2 miles from downtown Long Beach via East Third Street. It’s also located about 30 miles south of downtown Los Angeles, 24 miles from Anaheim and 23 miles from Irvine. A stone’s throw away from the Pacific Coast Highway, the neighborhood has access to other California cities up or down the coast. Residents can catch a Long Beach Transit bus if they want to take public transportation. For medical services, Dignity Health - St. Mary Medical Center is only 2 miles away. The closest major airport is Long Beach Airport, about 5 miles from the neighborhood.
