A laidback Long Beach neighborhood
DeForest Park is just removed enough from nearby Long Beach to offer residents a little breather from the city as well as a little more space. “DeForest Park is a tiny little pocket away from the main streets,” says Airazulema Alfaro, a Realtor with Keller Williams SELA. “People move here because it's a little bit secluded, and it's close to the park.” Thanks to nearby freeway access, residents can still easily travel throughout Long Beach and enjoy their own quiet enclave.
DeForest Park borders neighborhood
The neighborhood shares its name with, a fifty-acre park along the Los Angeles River. It offers pickleball and volleyball courts as well as a playground and softball field. Nature trails wind through the park's wetlands, which the city protects, preserving the natural habitat of local wildlife. Visitors can download the Agents of Discovery app for an interactive experience.
According to the DeForest Park Neighborhood Association, the park is haunted. Visitors have reported feeling bursts of cold air and have recorded disembodied voices on electronic devices. In addition to hosting specters, the park is home to events like a chili cook-off, Christmas light display contest and the Earth Day celebration.
