Los Altos North
Midcentury modern neighborhood in north Long Beach
Ranch-style homes sit lot to lot on tree-lined streets. Trees, just as old or older than the classic homes, shade the sidewalks. Allison Van Wig, one of Long Beach’s top Realtors and brokers, described the area as having a strong, midcentury feel. “They’re mostly tract homes, but they have been updated,” she says. The neighborhood comprises midcentury modern homes built in the 1940s, '50s and '60s. Over the years, owners have upgraded the interiors of many homes to include modernized kitchens, bathrooms and wiring. Most homes in Los Altos North sell for between $810,000 to $1.3 million, depending on the size and condition. Prices are slightly lower than in some nearby areas, primarily because of the neighborhood’s proximity to Long Beach Airport. While the flyover noise can be a nuisance, it hasn’t detracted from the neighborhood's popularity. Homes in Los Altos North rarely come on the market and sell quickly when they do.
