Hollywood Hills

Spanish-style homes start around $1.5 million
“There are a handful of modern contemporary homes in eastern Hollywood Hills, but you mostly see Spanish-style and traditional properties,” says Oliver Thornton, CEO/Co-Founder and real estate agent at Hollywood Estates, with more than eight years of industry experience. One of the most well-known residential areas in Hollywood Hills – Beachwood Canyon – is host to a number of early 20th-century homes that feature classic Spanish and Mediterranean architecture, according to Ware. There are also a handful of townhouse units and two-bedroom residences here that start around $800,000, while most single-family homes in this neighborhood tend to cost between $1.5 and $3 million.Rock on at the Hollywood Bowl
Hollywood is synonymous with the American entertainment industry, so it’s no surprise that this neighborhood is home to a large music and film scene. “You’ve got the Hollywood Bowl in the area, and the Hollywood Walk of Fame is right nearby,” Thornton says. The Hollywood Bowl, which first opened in 1922, has become a famous concert venue and destination for live music performances and events. From The Beatles to Billie Holliday, the Hollywood Bowl has seen some of the biggest names in the industry perform on its stage. Just south of the neighborhood is The Hollywood Museum, where museumgoers can explore the world’s largest Hollywood memorabilia collection.Hike around Lake Hollywood
With a portion of the neighborhood encompassing Griffith Park, residents of Hollywood Hills have convenient access to plenty of outdoor recreation: “The area offers great nature trails for hiking and nearly traffic-free streets for pet walking and spotting wildlife,” Ware says. Thornton adds that the neighborhood is also home to the Hollywood Reservoir: “It’s a very popular outdoor spot, being that it’s one of the largest lakes in the Los Angeles area and offers plenty of hiking opportunities.” The reservoir is also often called Lake Hollywood, and situated right nearby is Lake Hollywood Park, which features a children’s playground and open green fields. In total, Griffith Park spans more than 4,200 acres of natural terrain and well-maintained parkland; some of Griffith Park’s popular attractions include the Griffith Observatory, Mount Sinai Memorial Park, The Greek Theatre and the Los Angeles Zoo.Young learners can attend the highly rated Wonderland School
“Many families here send their kids to the Wonderland School, which is arguably one of the best elementary schools in the Los Angeles area,” Thornton says. Founded in 1926, the Wonderland School is an A-minus-rated primary institution and recipient of the 2010 California Distinguished School Award; the school was also designated a National Blue Ribbon School in 2016. Students in grades six through eight can attend Walter Reed Middle School, which receives a B-plus rating. Secondary students might go to Hollywood High School, which is also rated B-plus and offers a New Media Academy, Performing Arts Magnet and Teaching Career Academy. Students can also attend the B-plus-rated STEM Academy of Hollywood, which engages learners in a project-based curriculum with two career pathways: engineering and biomedicine.Grab a coffee at the Beachwood Café
“Beachwood Café is a very popular dining spot here, especially since Harry Styles name-dropped it in one of his songs,” Thornton says. At this charming coffee shop, customers can enjoy modern American fare made with fresh ingredients. Also within the neighborhood is Yamashiro Hollywood, a fine dining establishment serving Asian fusion cuisine in a setting reminiscent of Japanese gardens. For weekly grocery shopping, residents can head to the nearby Trader Joe’s or Gelson’s Hollywood. At the Hollywood Boulevard Peterson Building just outside the neighborhood, locals can find department stores such as Target and Marshall’s, which offer various apparel options and household goods.State Route 101 runs through the neighborhood
With State Route 101 running through it, Hollywood Hills has convenient access to neighboring areas. Central Hollywood is directly to the south, Universal Studios is located a few miles northwest and adjacent on the east side is Los Feliz. To access the subway, residents can find a number of Metro stops situated along Hollywood Boulevard, located only a couple blocks south of the neighborhood. The Los Angeles Department of Transportation, or LADOT, also operates a number of fixed bus routes throughout the area. For those who need to catch a flight, the Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) is an approximately 15-mile drive away.
