Logan Park
Suburban Neighborhood in Minneapolis, Minnesota
Hennepin County 55413, 55418
Queen Anne and Craftsman styles
The majority of homes in Logan Park were constructed around the early 1900s, featuring an inventory of Craftsman and Queen Annes common of the era. “The housing market in Logan Park is more competitive than most of the Metro Minneapolis Area, with only 400 square homes within a few blocks,” says Carmack, who has been selling in Minneapolis for 8 years. Homes are priced competitively due to the lower inventory and little room for new construction except on teardown lots. While most homes are single-family, multi-family townhouses and condos are available along NE Madison Street. With a median sales price of $350,000, single family Craftsman and Queen Annes cost from $200,000 to $750,000, while multi-family townhouses and condos can be purchased from the high $200,000s to upwards of $350,000. The community is about 40% residential and 60% commercial, with renters dominating the market. Streets are laid out in a grid, with Monroe Street NE separating the industrial area from the highly residential. Sidewalks are paved, connecting residents to community staples like The Briar and the Logan Recreation Center. Homes here often feature detached garages and are fronted by minimal lawn space with ornate barriers for added seclusion from neighbors.Year-round recreation at Logan Park
Offering 10 acres of open greenery, Logan Park acts as a central hub of activity for residents. During the summer, neighbors gather at Logan Recreation Center to take advantage of the wading pool. Or locals can spend time on the outdoor ice rink during the winter months. Logan Park also hosts a variety of year-round events from ice cream socials and live music performances to gardening events and the annual Lights of Logan Lighting Contest. Teams can utilize the sports fields at Northeast Athletic Field Park offering 35 acres of outdoor space for baseball, softball, soccer and tennis. The Jim Lupient Water Park is also located here, offering three large slides and a lap swimming pool open from June through August. Daily admission rates and season passes are available for entry. Take advantage of the wooden docks at Boom Island Park, offering canoe or kayak racks for renting and the perfect launch onto the Mississippi River. Parents can enjoy an outdoor lunch on the riverside picnic tables while children burn off energy on the jungle-gym.Education at Minneapolis Public Schools
Students in Logan Park can attend schools like Pillsbury Elementary, Northeast Middle and Thomas Edison High School, which have earned ratings of C, C-plus and C-plus from the educational review site, Niche. Pillsbury Elementary School offers an extensive Special Education program dedicated to individualized student teaching for increased comprehension. Northeast Middle School offers a Middle Years Programme to support its International Baccalaureate status, encouraging students to make practical connections between their studies and the real world. Thomas Edison High School offers an advanced curriculum with 5 AP courses and the opportunity for students to obtain college credit. Private options like St. Charles Borromeo School and Pope John Paul II Catholic School are also common.Art exhibitions and the annual Logan Lighting Contest
In November, residents attend the annual Art Attack! open studio event at the Northrup King Building. This three-day event features food trucks, live art demonstrations and a marketplace for more than 300 local artists. The Open Casket exhibition is also hosted in early November. It’s smaller, with around 100 artists, but features live performances, local bites and booths of unique pieces for purchase at the Casket Arts Building. In December, neighbors gather at the pavilion in Logan Park for hot chocolate and cookies in anticipation of the annual Lights of Logan Lighting Contest. The event is hosted by the Logan Park Neighborhood Association (LPNA) and offers an opportunity for neighbors to mingle from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. during the winter months. Homes in Logan Park compete for the best lighting display. The winner is announced in the LPNA January newsletter and receives $10 from each board member.Commute into Minneapolis on Central Avenue NE
Logan Park residents rely on Central Avenue NE for easy access to downtown Minneapolis and neighboring areas like St. Anthony East and Beltrami. When seeking public transportation, locals can hop on the Metro Transit bus, which operates along Central Avenue NE. Those interested in traveling further outside the community are 15 miles from Minneapolis-St Paul International Airport. Healthcare is available at Hennepin County Medical Center, 3 miles from the Logan Park community.Shopping at The Quarry
Logan Park residents can shop at The Quarry along the Great Northern Greenway, which features a variety of department stores and retailers, like Cub Foods, Target and The Home Depot. When dining in the area, locals can visit the long-standing Ideal Diner for a root beer float and an all-American meal. The diner has been serving the community since 1949. Or head to Tattersall Craft Cocktail Room NE for outdoor dining and a wide selection of beverages made with spirits distilled in-house. And make sure to check out The Briar, which offers an Italian-style coffee program in the morning and a full bar and cocktail program at night. “Briar strives to be a place where neighbors can meet each other and make connections over a great cocktail or coffee — We have a very close relationship with the neighborhood, hosting volunteer clean-ups, association events and often sponsor hyper-local activities here in Logan Park,” says Hilari ZiaiMehr, owner of The Briar and resident of Logan Park. The largest art complex in Minnesota
The most notable repurposed warehouse in Logan Park is the Northrup King Building. Known as the largest art complex in Minnesota, this former seed company now houses more than 300 tenants, 250 artists, small businesses and several non-profit organizations. A center of creativity, the building hosts gallery spaces like Kolman & Reeb, while also providing artists of nearly every medium — from sculpture to fashion to printmaking — with studio spaces where they can work and set their own hours of business. “The Arts District is the main attraction for the area, offering a cool pocket of creatives and annual art shows like the notable Art-A-Whirl in May that draws people into Northeast Minneapolis,” says long-time local Joe Carmack, Realtor with Carmack Real Estate Group and Creator of Living in Minnesota on YouTube.
